OwnScan

Document scanner

Privacy policy

Draft. Effective on the app's launch date.

OwnScan is a document scanner made by Cleanware. This policy is short because there is very little to say: we don't collect any information about you.

What we collect: nothing. The app has no account, no server, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking code. We never receive your documents, scans, recognized text, QR codes, photos or any information about how you use the app.

Where your data lives. Everything you create stays on your device, in the app's private storage:

  • Scanned pages, recognized text and document names
  • Signatures you draw, and the text, highlights and watermarks you add to pages
  • Details read from a passport or ID card (only if you use that feature, and only with that document)
  • Your QR scan history (you can turn this off or clear it in Settings)
  • Your preferences

Your device's own backup (iCloud Backup or a computer backup, if you use one) includes this storage, like any other app's data. That backup is managed by Apple under your Apple Account and your settings, not by us.

On-device processing. Scanning, text recognition (OCR), table detection, reading a passport's machine-readable zone, PDF, Word and Excel creation and QR code reading all use Apple frameworks that run on your device. They don't send your content anywhere.

Camera, photos and Face ID. The camera is used only while you scan documents or codes. Photos and files are read only when you choose to import them. Face ID or your passcode is checked by iOS; the app never sees your biometric data.

When data leaves the app. Only when you choose to share or export something. It then goes wherever you send it (for example Mail, Files or AirDrop), under that app's or service's privacy policy. Exported files never include your location or camera details.

Links you open. If you open a link from a scanned QR code, it opens in your browser. The app shows you where it leads first and warns you about suspicious links.

Purchases. The one-time unlock is sold through the App Store. Apple processes the payment. We receive only the anonymous sales reports that Apple provides to every developer, never your name or payment details. The app checks your purchase on your device.

Children. The app collects no information from anyone, including children.

Changes. If this policy changes, we'll update this page and the date above. Any change that adds data collection would require a new app version, and we'd say so clearly in the release notes.
