The short version: Carmesí does not collect, transmit, sell or share any of your data.
What Carmesí stores
The period days, flow, moods, symptoms, notes and preferences you enter are stored only on your iPhone, in Carmesí's private app storage. iOS encrypts this storage whenever your device is locked. Carmesí has no servers, no user accounts, no analytics, no advertising and no third-party SDKs, and it makes no network requests of its own.
iCloud and backups
Your diary is kept out of iCloud and computer backups by default, and Carmesí never uses iCloud Drive or CloudKit. If you turn on "Include in iPhone backups" (Style → Privacy), your diary becomes part of your own encrypted iPhone backups. Backup files you export are saved only where you choose, and you're responsible for keeping them safe.
Purchases
The free trial and the one-time unlock are handled entirely by Apple through the App Store. Carmesí only checks, on your iPhone, whether they are active. It never sees your payment details, your Apple Account or who you are, and it sends nothing about you anywhere.
Face ID, Touch ID and passcode
If you turn on the app lock, Carmesí asks iOS to verify you. Carmesí never receives or stores your biometric data or passcode.
Notifications
Reminders are scheduled locally on your device. With "Discreet wording" on (the default), notifications never mention your period or fertility.
Optional features
All optional features (Style → Features) work on your iPhone only. Apple Health: if you turn it on, Carmesí reads and writes cycle data (period, spotting, basal temperature, ovulation tests, cervical mucus, sexual activity) through Apple's Health app on your device; it is never sent to us or anyone else. Widgets read a small summary stored on your device. Doctor reports, CSV and passphrase backups are created on your iPhone and only leave it if you share or save them yourself. A forgotten backup passphrase cannot be recovered.
Deleting your data
Use Style → Privacy → "Delete all my data", or delete the app. Both permanently remove all Carmesí data from your device.
Children
Carmesí does not knowingly collect information from anyone, including children, because it collects no information at all.

Changes
If this policy ever changes, the new version will be posted here with a new date, and the in-app policy will be updated.
