Does Transcribe upload my recordings?
No. Transcription, summaries and questions all run on your device. The app makes no network connections.
Why did Transcribe download something the first time?
Your device's system downloads Apple's speech model the first time you transcribe in a language. After that, transcription works with no connection at all.
Which languages are supported?
Every language your device's on-device speech recognition supports. Pick one in Settings, or choose Transcribe Again on a recording to transcribe it in another language.
Why don't I see Summary and Ask?
They need Apple Intelligence (iPhone 15 Pro or later, iPads and Macs with M1 or later) turned on in the Settings app, and a language Apple Intelligence supports. Transcripts and exports work without it.
Can it tell speakers apart automatically?
Not yet. You can name speakers yourself: tap the name above any passage. Automatic speaker detection is planned for a later version.
Can I record with the screen locked?
Yes. Recording continues in the background, with a Live Activity on the Lock Screen and buttons to pause, add a marker or stop. On Mac, a menu bar item shows the timer.
What happens when a call comes in while recording?
Recording pauses and nothing is lost. Tap Resume when you're ready.
What does the free version include?
Every feature, for 3 recordings of up to 30 minutes each. Recordings you've made stay fully usable forever. A single purchase removes both limits on iPhone, iPad and Mac.
I bought it on another device. How do I restore it?
Settings › Restore Purchase, signed in with the same Apple Account. Family Sharing works too.
How do I get subtitles for a video?
Import the video, then Export › SRT or WebVTT.
How do I delete everything?
Delete recordings in the app, or delete the app. Nothing is stored anywhere else.
