Frequently asked questions
Do I need an account or internet?
No. PDF editor works without an account and without internet. Nothing is uploaded.
What does the free version include?
Everything: every tool and every conversion. You can save or export 5 documents. A document counts once, the first time you save or export it; saving it again or exporting it to another format doesn't count again. After that, the documents you already saved stay free to open, edit, save and export, and you can always open and read any PDF. A one-time purchase (no subscription) lets you save and export new ones. Reaching the limit never loses work: the document stays open and PDF editor keeps a recovery copy.
How do I enter my license key?
Choose Help → Enter License Key… (on a Mac, also in the PDF editor menu) and paste the whole key from your receipt email. It starts with FOLIO-. Line breaks and spaces don't matter.
Can I use my license on another computer?
Yes, on your own computers and in the web version. To move it, choose Help → Enter License Key… → Remove License on the old one and enter the key on the new one. The Microsoft Store version is free to install and unlocks with the same key.
I lost my license key.
Use the lost-key page at cleanware.app/license with the email address you bought with, or write to hola@cleanware.app with your receipt.
Where are my files saved?
Wherever you choose when you save. PDF editor edits a working copy; your original file only changes when you save over it.
I closed PDF editor without saving. Is my work lost?
Probably not. Open PDF editor again and choose Restore under "Unsaved work found".
I edited text, but the old text can still be found by search.
Edit text covers the original and places your new text on top. To remove information for good, use Redact: when you save, everything under a redaction is permanently deleted. That page is saved as an image.
Some characters in my added text became "?".
Text you add uses the standard PDF fonts, which cover English, Spanish and other Western European languages. Greek, Cyrillic, Asian scripts and emoji aren't supported in added text yet. Text that is already in the PDF displays normally.
Can I fill and sign forms?
Yes. Click a form field to type. Use Sign to draw, type or upload a signature. Turn on Flatten form fields on save (Tools menu) to lock the answers.
How do I change the language or the text size?
File → Language switches between English and Spanish. File → Text size makes the interface larger.
Is PDF editor accessible?
Yes. Everything works with the keyboard (Enter inserts with the active tool; arrows move, Alt+arrows resize, Delete removes), and controls are labeled for screen readers. There's also dark mode, high-contrast support and adjustable text size.
A PDF won't open.
It may be damaged, or it may not really be a PDF. If it opens in other apps but not in PDF editor, please send it to hola@cleanware.app.
