Getting started

How do I get my bank's statement file?

Sign in to your bank's website or app and look for your account's movements or statement, then an option such as Download, Export, or "CSV". Choose CSV (sometimes called "comma-separated" or "spreadsheet"), and the months you want. Two or three months give Reikna enough to find repeating charges. Every bank puts it somewhere different; in Reikna, Settings › How to export from your bank has tips.

My bank only gives me PDF or Excel.

Reikna reads CSV files. Open an Excel file in Numbers or Google Sheets and export it as CSV. A PDF statement can't be read reliably yet.

Why doesn't Reikna connect to my bank?

Connecting means handing your bank password to a company and letting its servers read your accounts. Reikna never does that: you stay in control of what goes in, and nothing leaves your device.

Can I try it without a file?

Yes. On "How do you want to start?", choose "Explore an example household". The example disappears when you add your own movements, or from Settings › Remove example data.

Importing

Reikna guessed the wrong columns or dates.

When it isn't sure, Reikna shows the columns so you can say which is the date, the description and the amount, and which order the dates use (day first or month first). If a bank's layout keeps coming out wrong, tell us which bank (not your data) and we'll add it.

Will importing the same file twice double everything?

No. Movements you already imported are recognized and skipped; the review screen shows how many.

I imported the wrong file.

Settings › Import history › Undo removes everything that import added.

Why don't card payments count as spending?

Paying your credit card from checking moves money between your own accounts. Reikna matches both sides as a transfer, so the purchases on the card count once and the payment doesn't count again.

Your data

Where is my data?

Only on this iPhone or iPad, in Reikna's private storage, encrypted by iOS when the device is locked. There's no account and no cloud copy of ours. See the privacy policy.

How do I move to a new phone?

Restore your new phone from an iCloud or computer backup of the old one, and Reikna's data comes along. Or use Settings › Export my data to save a CSV and import it on the new device (movements, dates, amounts and categories come back; account names and notes don't).

How do I delete everything?

Settings › Delete everything. It removes every movement, account, correction and setting, and starts the app again from the introduction. Deleting the app also removes everything.

What does the Face ID lock do?

It asks for Face ID, Touch ID or your passcode when you open Reikna, and hides its preview in the app switcher. Turn it on in Settings › Privacy.

Purchase

How much does Reikna cost?

It's free for 30 days with every feature. After that, one payment unlocks it forever, and buying during the trial costs less. There is no subscription. The App Store shows the price in your currency.

What happens when the trial ends?

Your data is never locked. You can still view, edit, categorize, export and delete everything. Only adding new movements (importing or by hand) asks for the one-time purchase.

Does reinstalling restart the trial?

No. The trial is tied to your Apple Account through the App Store, so it continues where it was.

I bought Reikna but it asks me to pay again.

Settings › Purchase › Restore purchase, signed in with the same Apple Account you bought it with. Reikna needs the App Store to be reachable for a moment to restore.

Can my family use it?

Yes. The unlock supports Family Sharing: family members on your plan get it at no extra cost.

How do I get a refund?

Refunds are handled by Apple. Request one at reportaproblem.apple.com.
